France: Languedoc-Roussillon
In this movie we go to the Languedoc - Roussillon in the south of
France. We start in Mende and proceed through small towns where it
appears that nothing has changed in the last 300 years. We visit the
Gorges du Tarn and walk through the Dargilan caves. In Alès former
miners guide us through the old coal-mine, and tell us their
fascinating stories. Just north of Anduze we have a look at the
bamboo-plantation from Prafrance. In
Nimes
a temple and arena remind us of the time the
Romans ruled this area. Via Villeneuve-Lès-Avignon we arrive in Uzès,
one of the most beautiful cities of France, and proceed to
Montpellier, the governing centre of the Languedoc-Roussillon. In the
centre of Petite Camargue lies Aiges-Mortes which is surrounded with
grenellated walls complete with towers and gates. Via Sète and Gap –
d’Agde we go to Béziers, build on top of a rock with views over the
Hérault region. We travel towards Narbonne and the centuries old
settlement-city Carcassonne. Between Orbiel and Grésillon we discover
the ruins from impregnable forts, which were the outposts from the
Catars, to defend the mother-city Carcassonne. We finish our trip in
Perpignan which is the most Catalan city of France.
