Canarische eilanden: Gran Canaria

Around one hundred kilometers out from the coast of Marokko and the western Sahara in the Atlantic Ocean, lies the Canarische Islands, a group of islands belonging to Spain. One of these islands, the Gran Canaria, is the focus of our trip. We begin our reconnaissance in Las Palmas de Gran Canarie, the largest city of the archepel and also the island's capital city, which has more than half a million inhabitants. After that we traverse through rough volcanic landscape, through quiet little towns with characteristic houses and sometimes impressive churches. The Guanchen, the original inhabitants, often used caves and hollows as houses and some are apparently still inhabited. Gran Canaria is divided into two climatic zones by a mountain chain. The northern part has a damper climate and is therefore more fertile than the south, which has more sunlight hours and is therefore dryer and warmer. It's beauty is determined more by its beaches where you can sunbake all year round, just like in Puerto Rico or Maspalomas, which have the largest and most modern bathing facilities in Gran Canaria. In this film we take you with us on our exploration around this delightful island with its paradise like climate, magnificent scenery and hospitable population.
