North Island

In this film we scout the North Island, one of the Islands that forms New Zealand, and we begin our roundtrip in the capital city of Wellington. We set course through the mountainous Tararua Range to Napier, which is also called "Art Deco City". Our next goal is Lake Taupo and after that Rotorua, well known for its curative baths, but especially for the Maori culture. After we have looked around the Orakei Korako Valley, we follow the Forgotten World Highway until we reach the inhabited world again. Egmont National Park is close by and good for a few strolls. Via New Plymouth, the capital and the cultural centre of the Taranaka regeon, we look for the Waitomo Caves. During an exciting stay on Waihi Beach on the Bay of Plenty, we explore the surroundings and then travel in a northerly direction, first to the Coromandel peninsula and after that to the Northland. In the Trounson Kauri Park we look at Kauri trees, which are among the largest in the world. In the Bay of Islands we swim with the dolphins and in Waitangi we stand on the spot where the 1840 "Treaty of Waitangi" was signed. Finally we end our trip in Auckland.
